Rugged Construction? Gimme a break.

by ChunderHog from Riverton, UT USA on 2005-11-22
"Rugged Construction" is apparently a euphimism for "broken before you even open it". I'm returning it today for a replacement. We'll see how their customer service is. As an engineer by training, I understand a little about the design of this hardware. Basically they've set it up so that the bulk of the load is carried in strain by a 1/4 inch thick piece of soft pine. Since a normal-sized adult will routinely be putting 40 or 50 pounds of weight on this thing, I would say that's a little underdesigned. I don't hold out great hope that the thing will last very long even if my replacement is not broken before I open it. The only reason I'm trying this again is that I've had such poor luck with the metal footstools I've tried before. If they would have just added another 1/4 inch to the thickness of that key piece, they would've had a reasonably nice product for this price point. I might just try some liquid nails on it when it breaks or just cut myself a new support piece out of a 2 x 4 end or use a metal mending plate with small screws. Then I'll have something that will last. Did I mention the chintzy vinyl non-slip pads glued to the ground-contact points with crappy glue that doesn't stick sufficiently? Those will probably fall off after about a week of use. Once again, "rugged construction" at it's finest. The only reason I give this more than one star is because of the potential of the design. It's almost good. Last note, this item is not made by Musician's Friend. They are just the retailer, so I don't really blame them. Whoever the company is that made this should be ashamed of their quality control department for allowing something to ship that was obviously broken before they ever put it in a package. Totally unacceptable.

Waste

by Seth from New York on 2005-12-13
I had this footstool for about a half a year and then one day out of the blue I was playing and it just snapped, the wood surrounding the metal bar just split. It may be more appealing than a metal footstool but if your looking for asthetics look else where. Don't waste your money.

not up to my standards

by Joseph G. Blumetti from on 2010-01-31
The workmanship of this footstool was inferior, the finish was marred and dull. I had purchased it as a gift and had to buff and polish the wood to make it even presentable. It took over an hour to polish it and make it appear new. I would not recommend this product.

Broke Within A Few Weeks

by M. Hill from on 2009-10-13
This footstool looks nice but is poorly designed. As the first reviewer noted, the key suppport point is weak and will easily break. I took care not to place undue weight on the footstool but it still broke after very little use. I also own the Ultra WFS22 Wood Classic Guitar Foot Rest (also sold by Amazon.com) and, in my opinion, it is a much better value for the money.

A Piece of Junk

by H. B. Miller from on 2010-04-28
This stand looks sturdy but tended to collapse if my foot was placed even slightly off center, and it broke completely after about two weeks of use. Definitely not recommended.
