Help. I'm having problems playing the "Fade to Black" solo by Metallica. I need advice from fellow shredders?
I'm not talking about the beginning of the song (I can't believe people even call that the solo). I'm talking about the end.
I have a baseline model Ibanez electric and it sucks. The strings are too far away from the fret board so as soon as it gets to the fast part with lots of bending, hammer-ons and pull-offs all happening in a heartbeat, I get sloppy and I can't even hear the notes... and I've been playing for about seven years too so it's not like I suck or anything. Should I get a new guitar?
Any advice from good shredders (especially those who can play this solo) will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
I would get a new guitar, but that's not the problem. Lower the bridge so the strings are closer, and then you can have a faster action. You may be trying to hit the strings too hard, which causes sloppiness. Relax your finger before playing and hit them lightly but fast. When it comes to hammer on's and off's it can begin sounding sloppy, but keep practicing, you will get it!
